Maricopa County Animal Care & Control Boosted by $90,000 PetSmart Charities Grant for National Adoption Week

Maricopa County Animal Care & Control (MCACC) has been awarded a significant $90,000 grant from PetSmart Charities, aimed at enhancing pet adoption efforts across the Phoenix area. This funding will be instrumental during National Adoption Week, taking place from March 23 to 29, 2026, at various PetSmart locations in Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Mesa. The grant will also assist in day-to-day operations at the Everyday Adoption Center (EAC) and support an adoption counselor at the Mesa PetSmart location.

Every year, millions of pets end up in shelters across the United States, often overwhelming these facilities. This generous grant will not only allow MCACC to showcase available dogs at PetSmart stores but also aid in their care while they await adoption into loving homes.

Kim Powell, Communications Supervisor for MCACC, expressed gratitude, stating, “We love partnering with PetSmart Charities to get dogs into loving homes. Each year, more than 16,000 pets arrive at MCACC, all looking for a second chance at love. This grant will be key for MCACC’s mission of trying to help dogs find their forever home.” Powell highlighted the success of the previous grant, noting that over 1,700 adoptions occurred at the EAC and the Mesa PetSmart last year.

Aimee Gilbreath, president of PetSmart Charities, emphasized the importance of supporting local animal welfare organizations. “Our animal welfare partners in local communities are determined to keep pace with the need, and deserve support. We’re proud to work alongside Maricopa County Animal Care & Control and appreciate the critical steps they take to advocate for the animals that come through their doors in need of love, safety, care, and nutrition,” she said.

National Adoption Week is a special opportunity for prospective pet parents to meet adoptable pets at nearby PetSmart stores, learn about pet care essentials, and ask questions to staff and volunteers. Discounted Adoption Fees for Dogs 6 Months and Older

During National Adoption Week, several PetSmart locations will offer discounted adoption fees for dogs aged six months and older. The schedule is as follows:
