Family Finds Hope and Stability Through Community Outreach Initiatives
In a heartening example of community support, a family from Alabama, who had been living in their vehicle near 83rd Avenue and McDowell due to persistent housing instability, has found temporary relief and support through the efforts of Community Bridges Inc. (CBI). This family, comprised of two adults, a 13-month-old child, and a dog, experienced a crucial intervention from the Hand in Hand outreach team.
The outreach team quickly responded to a referral about the family and swiftly enrolled them in the Hand in Hand program. Leveraging the resources available within Maricopa County, they arranged for the family to stay in emergency hotel accommodations, offering them immediate safety and a sense of stability.
Upon enrolling the family, it was discovered that one of the adults is a veteran. This led the team to engage Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) promptly, ensuring that veteran-specific housing and support services were made accessible. A seamless handoff was conducted with Community Bridges SSVF to facilitate this process.
Beyond securing temporary shelter, the outreach team addressed the family’s urgent needs. A food box from St. Mary’s Food Bank was provided, and diapers were supplied for the child upon request. Although the family was offered services through Primary Care Medical Homes (PCMH), they chose not to utilize these services at the time.
Through a concerted effort with community partners, the family has been stabilized and linked to enduring support systems. Their positive program exit is planned, representing a significant advancement toward achieving housing stability and a more secure future.
