Board Demands Truth from Recorder Heap Amid Allegations of Misconduct

Maricopa County Board Demands Accountability from Recorder Justin Heap

In a significant move towards transparency, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has taken decisive action regarding Recorder Justin Heap. Accusations of non-cooperation and dishonesty have plagued Heap, prompting the Board to demand a public accounting of his actions.

The Board, utilizing their authority under ARS § 11-253, has mandated that Heap submit a detailed written report and participate in a public testimony session. This session, set for February 18, will address serious allegations, including claims of voter disenfranchisement made by Heap’s own staff.

The Board’s statement was unequivocal: “Justin Heap has been lying to the public and refusing to answer basic, job-related questions from the Board of Supervisors for more than one year. He has been unreliable. He has been unprofessional. He has been untruthful. He has been unaccountable. That ends today.”

Board members expressed that without full transparency and honesty from Heap, they are unable to responsibly manage county operations or set budgets, especially with an active election currently underway in Tempe.
