University of Iowa Spring Commencement: Over 6,100 Students to Graduate

As spring ushers in a new season of growth, it also marks a significant milestone for over 6,100 students at the University of Iowa who are set to receive their degrees. Commencement activities commence with the College of Pharmacy’s Doctor of Pharmacy ceremony on May 14 and wrap up with the College of Dentistry ceremony on June 5.

Thursday, May 14

College of Pharmacy

Doctor of Pharmacy Ceremony

10 a.m.

Hancher Auditorium

Jill Kolesar, the dean and Jean M. Schmidt Chair in Drug Discovery, will deliver remarks at the ceremony. Karli Michael from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, takes the stage as the student speaker, with Jeffrey Reist, associate professor emeritus, as the guest speaker. Degrees will be conferred by President Barbara Wilson.

College of Education

Undergraduate and Teacher Education Program Ceremony

4 p.m.

Hancher Auditorium

Degrees will be conferred by Dean Daniel Clay and President Barbara Wilson. Mark McDermott, associate dean for undergraduate education and educator preparation, will acknowledge students completing various educational programs. Melanie Bloom, the 2025 Iowa Teacher of the Year, will give the keynote address. Faculty speaker Samuel Tanner and student speaker Uriel Campos-Padilla will also contribute.

Graduate College

Master’s Degree Candidates

7 p.m.

Carver-Hawkeye Arena

President Barbara Wilson and Saba Ali, associate provost for graduate and professional education and dean of the Graduate College, will address the graduates. Airiana Mohr, a graduate with a Master of Arts in strategic communications and Master of Public Affairs, will offer the student address.

Friday, May 15

College of Law

2 p.m.

Hancher Auditorium

Degrees will be conferred by President Barbara Wilson and Todd Pettys, College of Law dean. The student speaker will be Roni Miller, and Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Susan Crawford will provide the alumni address.

Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine

Doctor of Medicine and Master in Medical Education Candidates

6:30 p.m.

Hancher Auditorium

Denise Jamieson, vice president for medical affairs, will preside over the ceremony. Introductory remarks will be made by Christopher Cooper, with degrees conferred by Jamieson and President Barbara Wilson. Student speaker Matthew Benson and keynote speaker Daniel Runde will also participate, alongside other distinguished guests.

Graduate College

Doctoral Degree Candidates

7 p.m.

Carver-Hawkeye Arena

Executive Vice President and Provost Kevin Kregel, along with Ana Rodriguez-Rodriguez, will deliver messages to students. Jahnavi Pandya, a graduate in Psychological and Quantitative Foundations, will provide the student address.

Saturday, May 16

College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (CLAS)

9 a.m.

Carver-Hawkeye Arena

The ceremony will honor graduates across a diverse array of majors. Executive Vice President and Provost Kevin Kregel will confer degrees, with student speaker Jenna Crowley and national anthem performer Chloe Schultz contributing to the event.

College of Nursing

9 a.m.

Hancher Auditorium

Dean Julie Zerwic will address the graduates, with student speakers Sachin Fong and Grace Thalacker. Distinguished alumni keynote speaker Julie Cowan Novak and President Barbara Wilson will also participate in the ceremony.

College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

1:30 p.m.

Carver-Hawkeye Arena

The ceremony will recognize a wide range of majors along with University College BAS and BLS graduates. President Barbara Wilson will confer degrees, with student speaker Aidan Wirtz and national anthem performer Sage Johnson participating.

Carver College of Medicine

Associate Medical Sciences Degree Candidates

2 p.m.

Hancher Auditorium

Denise Jamieson will deliver opening remarks, and Kevin Kregel will welcome graduates and confer degrees. David Asprey will serve as the master of ceremonies, with keynote speaker Emma Handler and student speakers Hannah Thomas and Trenton Rickels also participating.

Undergraduate Ceremony

6 p.m.

Carver-Hawkeye Arena

Wolfe Tone will provide the alumni address, with student speaker Advika Shah. Executive Vice President and Provost Kevin Kregel will confer degrees.

College of Public Health

6:30 p.m.

Hancher Auditorium

Vice President for Research David Schwebel will confer degrees. Dean Edith Parker will address the students, with graduate student speaker Erin Wissler Gerdes and undergraduate student speaker Kasia Wiebel also participating.

Sunday, May 17

College of Engineering

Noon

Carver-Hawkeye Arena

Dean Ann McKenna will open and close the ceremony, with student speaker Keegan Fogarty. Kevin Kregel will confer degrees.

Tippie MBA Programs

4 p.m.

Carver-Hawkeye Arena

Degrees will be conferred by Kevin Kregel, with John Mickelson as the speaker.

Friday, June 5

College of Dentistry

3 p.m.

Hancher Auditorium

Kevin Kregel will deliver the greeting, with Dean Clark Stanford welcoming the class. Jessica Fuessley will be the student speaker, and Sherry Timmons will present honors. Faculty members will present hoods to the candidates.
