BLM Announces 2026 Oil and Gas Lease Sale for 10,211 Acres in Nevada

BLM Plans Oil and Gas Lease Sale Covering Over 10,000 Acres in Nevada

RENO, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is moving forward with an oil and gas lease sale set for June 23, 2026. This event will feature four parcels, encompassing a total of 10,211 acres in the state of Nevada.

Last December, the BLM completed its scoping process for these parcels, followed by a public comment period that concluded in March 2026. As of today, a 30-day public protest period has been initiated, which will remain open until May 24, 2026, allowing for additional public feedback.

Leasing represents the initial phase in the development of federal oil and gas resources. Prior to commencing any development, operators are required to file an application for a permit to drill, outlining their development strategies. The BLM is responsible for reviewing these applications, making them available for public review, performing environmental analyses, and collaborating with state entities and stakeholders.

All parcels included in a federal oil and gas lease sale come with stipulations designed to safeguard vital natural resources. Detailed information about current and upcoming BLM leases can be accessed through the National Fluid Lease Sale System. These sales are conducted online via Efficient Markets.
