Santa Rosa Fuel Reduction Project Announced by Humboldt River Office

Winnemucca, Nev.— In a collaborative effort with the US Wildland Fire Service, the Humboldt River Field Office is set to release several critical documents for the Santa Rosa Integrated Fuels Reduction project, including a Determination of NEPA Adequacy, a Finding of No Significant Impact, and a Decision Record.

John Mitchell, the Humboldt River Field Office Manager, highlighted the significance of this initiative, remarking, “This will be the first local project with the newly formed US Wildland Fire Service.”

Designed to mitigate fire risks and improve conditions for wildlife, the project aims to decrease hazardous fuels and establish strategic fuel breaks to enhance firefighter safety at the western base of the Santa Rosa Mountains in Humboldt County, Nevada.

Spanning 111,600 acres, the project will employ a combination of targeted grazing, mechanical, chemical, and various other treatment methods over a decade to achieve its goals.

Details of the project and related decision documents are accessible on the BLM National NEPA Register.
