Nevada is facing significant challenges in affordability, making it one of the least affordable states in America. Under Governor Joe Lombardo’s administration, residents are experiencing difficulties in various aspects of life, including economic stability, healthcare, and public safety. Instead of addressing these pressing issues, Lombardo has aligned closely with former President Donald Trump, suggesting that Nevadans should “feel a little pain.”
Despite claims from Lombardo’s campaign that “our economy is moving in the right direction,” the state faces a rising unemployment rate, now one of the highest in the nation. This increase in unemployment has been compounded by a decline in tourism and travel, a vital component of Nevada’s economy, which continues to fall.
The tourism sector isn’t the only area under strain. Healthcare costs for working families are soaring, with premiums expected to rise by 34% in 2026. Additionally, Trump’s Medicaid cuts threaten the closure of four hospitals in the state. Yet, Lombardo has expressed that Nevadans should be “excited” about the bill, which prioritizes tax cuts for billionaires over healthcare funding, adversely affecting Nevada.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Kate Sosland criticized the administration, stating, “Thanks to the Lombardo-Trump economy, tourism is plummeting, inflation is getting worse, and Nevada has one of the worst unemployment rates in the nation. Nevadans can’t afford four more years of broken promises and a Trump rubber stamp.”
