ROCKY MOUNT – The Charlotte location of the N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles’ license plate agency (LPA) is set to cease operations by 5 p.m. on July 30 as the contract with its current operator concludes.
Colleen Grier has managed the LPA at 5622 E. Independence Blvd., Suite 124, within Charlotte’s Independence Shopping Center since September 2008. A new operator will be appointed, and the agency will resume under new management at a future date.
During the transition, residents can access services at four nearby agencies, which maintain hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday:
• Charlotte, 809 E. Arrowood Rd. (South Oak Shopping Center)
• Charlotte, 3250-G Wilkinson Blvd. (Shops at Westerly Station)
• Indian Trail, 14015-J E. Independence Blvd. (Indian Trail Village)
• Harrisburg, 4612 N.C. Hwy. 49 S. (Bestway Center)
These LPAs provide a range of services including vehicle registration, title transactions, and the renewal, replacement, or duplication of vehicle license plates. North Carolina is currently home to 126 such agencies.
