CMU Tops 2026 U.S. News Graduate Rankings


Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) has once again proven its excellence in higher education, achieving top rankings in several categories according to the 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools.

The university shares the No. 1 spot for overall graduate computer science programs with prestigious institutions like the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Stanford University. Within the realm of computer science, CMU has claimed the top position in areas such as Programming Language, Artificial Intelligence, and Systems. Additionally, it secured the second spot in Theory, tying with the University of California, Berkeley.

CMU’s prowess in information technology extends beyond computer science. The university has achieved No. 1 rankings in Information Systems (tied with the University of Texas at Austin) and Information and Technology Management, reflecting its broad expertise in these fields.

In the business arena, CMU’s excellence is evidenced by its No. 2 ranking in Business Analytics (tied with Columbia and Stanford universities) and a No. 5 ranking in Supply Chain/Logistics (tied with Cornell University and the University of Chicago). The university also shines in engineering, securing the fourth position in Computer Engineering within the Best Engineering Schools.

CMU’s arts programs are also noteworthy, with a No. 2 spot in Best Fine Arts Programs, sharing the rank with institutions like the Rhode Island School of Design, UCLA, and Virginia Commonwealth University.

Earlier in the year, CMU’s part-time Business Analytics program was recognized as the nation’s best by the U.S. News & World Report’s ranking of Non-MBA Online Business programs. The university’s online hybrid MBA program also received acclaim, ranking No. 2 among Online MBA Programs.

Carnegie Mellon University’s consistent recognition across various disciplines is further highlighted by its No. 4 rank as one of the Most Innovative Schools in the U.S. News & World Report’s 2026 undergraduate rankings, cementing its status as a leader in global education.
