In a significant development for Lyon County, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is poised to transfer fifteen parcels of public land, totaling approximately 7,612 acres, to the City of Fernley. This initiative is guided by the Howard P. “Buck” McKeon National Defense Authorization Act and aligns with the principles of the Recreation and Public Purposes Act.
Land Transfer Details
The land parcels exhibit a “checkerboard” configuration, mingling public and private ownership along the I‑80 corridor. Of the fifteen parcels involved, twelve, covering about 5,286 acres, are situated within the BLM’s Carson City District. The remaining three parcels, encompassing roughly 2,326 acres, are located in the Winnemucca District.
