Villanova University Hosts Panel on Pope Leo XIV’s First Year

VILLANOVA, Pa. (March 30, 2026) – In a move to delve into the leadership of Pope Leo XIV, Villanova University is organizing a panel discussion titled “Pope Leo @ One: Augustinian, Pastoral, Prophetic.” The event, set for April 28 from 5 to 6:30 p.m., will take place in the Villanova Room of the Connelly Center, marking a year since the Pope’s election. With a focus on Augustinian Catholic tradition, the discussion will highlight Pope Leo XIV’s initial year of papal leadership, examining his pastoral and prophetic roles, as well as his connection with the global Church.
The Office for Mission and Ministry at Villanova is spearheading the event, bringing in experts to discuss the Pope’s influences and future priorities. Dr. Tia Noelle Pratt, who is the special assistant to the Vice President for Mission & Ministry and director of Mission Engagement and Strategic Initiatives, will facilitate the discussion. Rev. Peter M. Donohue, OSA, PhD, and President of Villanova University, will give the opening remarks.
The panel will feature esteemed speakers including:
- Robert Cardinal McElroy, Archbishop of Washington and participant in the May 2025 conclave that elected Pope Leo XIV
- Justin McLellan, Vatican correspondent for the National Catholic Reporter
- The Rev. John J. Lydon, OSA, PhD, inaugural director of Villanova’s Mother Cabrini Institute on Immigration
- Jaisy A. Joseph, PhD, assistant professor of Theology and Religious Studies at Villanova University
- Hannah Kalamarides ’26 CLAS, Villanova student and synodal fellow who took part in the Jubilee Year of the Synod in Rome in October 2025
The discussion aims to provide varied insights into Pope Leo XIV’s leadership and the broader dynamics of the global Church and the ongoing Synod on Synodality. This initiative underscores Villanova’s dedication to fostering dialogue, discernment, and community involvement.
While the event is free and accessible to the public, participants must register in advance. Additionally, a livestream will be available for those unable to attend in person.
