Joe Lombardo Silent on Trump’s Pardons for January 6th Capitol Rioters

Joe Lombardo’s Silence on Trump Pardons Raises Questions

Amidst a wave of criticism from various quarters, Joe Lombardo, a former sheriff known for his “law and order” stance, has remained silent on Donald Trump’s decision to pardon over 1,500 individuals involved in the January 6th, 2021 Capitol attack. This controversial move by Trump has sparked widespread outrage, especially considering the incident’s tragic outcome, including the death of a law enforcement officer and injuries to 140 police officers.

While many Republicans have openly criticized Trump’s decision, Lombardo has chosen not to address the issue publicly. His silence contrasts sharply with other prominent figures, including Trump’s own Vice President, JD Vance, who remarked that those involved in attacking police during the Capitol riots “obviously” should not receive pardons. Vance’s comments reflect a growing divide within the party, as highlighted by a report from Politico.

Nevada State Democratic Party’s Reaction

Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Tai Sims criticized Lombardo’s inaction, stating, “The fact that Joe Lombardo, who campaigned on his record in law enforcement, can’t even be bothered to stand up for officers and condemn the pardoning of violent criminals who attacked police officers on January 6th tells you everything you need to know about him. Lombardo will abandon any group of people, any policy, and any principle if it is politically advantageous for him to do so.”
