NNSS Teams Honored with Prestigious Excellence Awards
The Nevada National Security Sites (NNSS) have been lauded for their remarkable contributions, receiving eight Excellence Awards from the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Office of Infrastructure. This recognition highlights the significant impact of their work in advancing the goals of the Build SMART Initiative.
The Excellence Awards are granted yearly to project teams that surpass the expectations set by the Build SMART Initiative, a component of the NNSA Enterprise Blueprint. This initiative focuses on prioritizing infrastructure that meets the necessary capacity, resilience, and responsiveness demands across the Nuclear Security Enterprise. Successful SMART projects are characterized by Strategic planning, Mission focus, Agility, Risk-informed decision making, and Timeliness.
The award ceremony was led by Nicole Nelson-Jean, Associate Administrator of the Office of Infrastructure, and Susan Wong, Principal Deputy Associate Administrator, who presented a total of 33 awards, eight of which were awarded to NNSS teams.
Expressing his admiration for the award-winning teams, NNSS Vice President of Mission Programs and Operations John Contardi stated, “These projects represent significant accomplishments that directly move the mission forward by improving our capabilities, reliability and efficiency.” Joel Leeman, NNSS Vice President of Enabling Programs and Modernization, echoed this sentiment, noting, “The NNSS was very well represented in these complex-wide awards. Our sponsors appreciate our innovation, execution and overall commitment.”
