Nevada’s political landscape is stirring as Joe Lombardo’s recent comments align closely with Donald Trump’s controversial stance on election integrity. Amid rising economic concerns, the Nevada Independent interview revealed Lombardo’s doubts about the state’s election security, despite the absence of evidence to support such claims. This comes as Trump strategizes on election control, a move that has drawn significant attention from political observers.
During the interview, Jon Ralston directly questioned Lombardo’s belief in the security of Nevada’s elections. Ralston asked, “Will you say here tonight that there’s no evidence that our elections are insecure?” to which Lombardo responded, “No. I can’t say that…” Ralston further asserted, “The confidence has been shaken by Donald Trump and his enablers. Nobody else has shaken the confidence.”
Trump has described Lombardo as a “big advantage” for him politically. This endorsement follows Lombardo’s controversial decision to veto legislation aimed at penalizing fake electors, a measure intended to protect Nevada’s electoral integrity.
Lombardo has also refrained from condemning Trump’s pardons of January 6th offenders and has shown support for various election deniers, including Trump himself. This stance has drawn criticism from various quarters, including the Nevada State Democratic Party.
“In another craven attempt to seek Donald Trump’s approval as he threatens to take over our elections, Joe Lombardo is peddling conspiracy theories,” stated Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Kate Sosland. She added that Lombardo’s actions are a distraction from addressing real issues like the affordability crisis.
