BLM Seeks Public Input on Nevada Land Sale Proposal for Development

BLM Seeks Public Input on Land Sale Proposal in Jean, Nevada

In a significant move concerning public land use, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is inviting public feedback on a proposed direct sale of reversionary interest of public lands in Jean, Nevada, to the State of Nevada. This initiative is part of a broader effort to enable economic development in the area.

Originally, on December 13, 1979, the BLM granted a 480-acre tract to the State of Nevada under the Recreation and Public Purposes Act. This law mandates that lands conveyed under its umbrella be utilized solely for community-centric purposes like parks, fire stations, or other civic facilities. Should the State wish to repurpose the land for other uses, it must compensate the federal government by purchasing the land’s “reversionary interest” at fair market value.

Currently, the State of Nevada has applied for a non-competitive direct sale of the reversionary interest for a parcel situated near the intersection of Prison Road and South Las Vegas Boulevard in Jean. By acquiring the reversionary interest, Nevada can obtain an unencumbered title from the United States, paving the way for potential economic advancements on the land.

A notice regarding this proposal is slated to be published in the Federal Register tomorrow, which will commence a 45-day public comment period, concluding on April 27, 2026. Interested parties can submit their written feedback to the BLM Las Vegas Field Office, Assistant Field Manager, Division of Lands, at 4701 N. Torrey Pines Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89130, or send a fax to 702-515-5010.

For those seeking further details about this transaction, BLM Realty Specialist Eric Benavides is available for contact at 702-515-5144 or via email at [email protected].
