BLM Approves Mount Hope Molybdenum Mine in Eureka County, Nevada

Bureau of Land Management Approves Mount Hope Molybdenum Mine in Nevada

BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. – In a significant move for the mining industry, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has given the green light to the Mount Hope molybdenum mine project, situated on both public and private lands near Eureka in Eureka County. This development is poised to impact the metal alloy sector due to molybdenum’s role as an alloying agent, enhancing the hardenability, strength, toughness, and resistance to wear and corrosion in steel, cast iron, and superalloys. The Mount Hope site boasts an impressive ore body, containing approximately 966 million tons of molybdenum disulfide. The mining operations are expected to yield about 1.1 billion pounds of recoverable molybdenum throughout the processing period.

This project aligns with the directives of President Trump’s Executive Order 14241, titled “Immediate Measures to Increase American Mineral Production.” The initiative aims to bolster domestic mineral production, thereby decreasing U.S. dependency on foreign minerals, enhancing national security, and generating employment opportunities.

Further details, including planning documents, can be accessed through the BLM National NEPA Register. For additional queries, please reach out to BLM Planning and Environmental Coordinator Jeff Kirkwood via email at [email protected] or by phone at 775-635-4164.
