As Nevada faces a steep rise in health care costs, Joe Lombardo’s involvement in this issue is under scrutiny. Recent reports indicate that under his leadership, the average insurance costs for Nevadans have surged by approximately $800 a month, marking a 34% increase. This financial strain coincides with additional expenses averaging $1,700 due to tariffs linked to the Trump administration.
Key Issues in Lombardo’s Health Care Record
Despite the challenges facing Nevadans, a dark money group aligned with Lombardo is promoting his health care initiatives. However, some significant actions have not been highlighted in these promotions:
- Lombardo supported Trump’s proposals to increase ACA premiums, potentially removing health care from 115,000 Nevadans.
- He backed Medicaid cuts that threaten to cost Nevada millions and could displace seniors from nursing homes and close hospitals.
- He dismissed the state public health option, aimed at providing affordable care to many, as “bullshit.”
- Lombardo vetoed legislation that aimed to lower prescription drug costs, after receiving substantial campaign contributions from pharmaceutical companies.
Nevada State Democratic Party’s Response
Kate Sosland, a spokesperson for the Nevada State Democratic Party, stated:
“No amount of dark money can paper over Joe Lombardo’s record of caving to Donald Trump and making Nevadans’ health care more expensive. As Nevadans’ health care costs have risen faster than anywhere else in the nation, Lombardo’s ‘winning’ strategy is just more lies and broken promises.”
