Reno Candidate Filing Period for Mayor and Council Begins March 2, 2026

The city is gearing up for an important electoral event as the Candidate Filing Period for several key positions is set to begin. Individuals interested in running for the positions of Mayor, Council Member for Ward 2, Council Member for Ward 4, and City Attorney will soon have the opportunity to file their candidacies.

Key Filing Details

The filing window opens on March 2, 2026, and will remain open until March 13, 2026. Prospective candidates can submit their applications from Monday to Friday, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., except for the final day, March 13, when the office will accept filings until 5 p.m.

Candidates must visit the Reno City Hall, located at 1 E. First St., specifically the City Clerk’s Office on the second floor, to file their candidacies. It’s important to note that the filing fee, set at $30 for non-judicial positions, needs to be paid via cash, cashier’s check, or money order.

For further details, including the offices up for election and specific candidate qualifications, potential candidates are encouraged to check the City’s Elections page. This page will be updated at the end of each business day, from Monday to Friday, with the names of candidates who have filed their paperwork.

Filing Process and Appointments

The City of Reno’s business hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during weekdays. While walk-in filings are permitted, scheduling an appointment is strongly recommended to ensure a smooth filing process. Candidates wishing to make an appointment can do so through the City’s online booking portal.
