Leadership’s Perspective on Early Voting Responsibilities
In a statement reflecting their stance on the early voting process, Chair Kate Brophy McGee and Vice Chair Debbie Lesko communicated their concerns regarding the current approach to early in-person voting. Their comments focus on Justin Heap’s role and the unanimous decision of the Board to assign him the responsibility.
The statement clarifies, “Justin Heap has been saying early in-person voting is under his authority, and the Board voted unanimously to give it to him.” They emphasized their willingness to assist Heap due to his inexperience with the process, urging the importance of timely action.
Despite offering support, including a list of over 160 potential voting centers, the leaders noted that they could not compel Heap to accept their aid. Their statement highlighted disappointment with Heap’s response to their letter, describing it as “misleading and disappointing.”
The leadership duo looks forward to Heap’s proposal for early voting while continuing preparations for Election Day. This proactive approach underscores the importance they place on ensuring a smooth electoral process.
