BLM Opens Public Comment Period for Nevada Oil and Gas Lease Sale

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has initiated a public comment period for the proposed inclusion of four oil and gas parcels in Nevada in an upcoming sale, set for June 23, 2026. These parcels, encompassing a total of 10,211 acres, are open for public feedback until March 19, 2026.

Following the completion of a scoping process last December, the BLM is now seeking public input to aid in the environmental analysis and review of these parcels. The insights gathered will contribute to the BLM’s comprehensive evaluation. Leasing marks the initial phase in the development of federal oil and gas resources, which entails operators submitting detailed applications for permits to drill. These applications undergo public scrutiny, environmental analysis, and coordination with state entities and stakeholders before any development can proceed.

To safeguard vital natural resources, each parcel in a federal oil and gas lease sale comes with specific stipulations. Updated information on BLM leases, both current and forthcoming, can be accessed via the National Fluid Lease Sale System. Lease sales are conducted online through EnergyNet.

Details about the parcels under analysis, along with maps and instructions for submitting comments, are available on the BLM’s ePlanning website: https://eplanning.blm.gov/Project-Home/?id=f839daf8-a7f2-f011-8407-001dd80db62a.

The BLM oversees approximately 245 million acres of public land, primarily across 12 western states including Alaska, for the benefit of American citizens. Additionally, the BLM manages a subsurface mineral estate spanning 700 million acres nationwide. The agency is dedicated to maintaining the health, diversity, and productivity of these lands for both current and future generations.
