Adopt a Wild Horse: Upcoming Event Details
Wild horse enthusiasts will soon have the opportunity to adopt or purchase these magnificent creatures through the Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Online Corral platform. Scheduled from February 9 to 16, 2026, the event will feature wild horses ready for new homes, with pick-up locations in Boise, Idaho, or Reno, Nevada.
Individuals who successfully adopt or purchase during this period can collect their animals on March 6 at the Boise Wild Horse Off-Range Corral, or between February 26 and 27 at the Palomino Valley Wild Horse and Burro Adoption Center in Reno. Each horse’s profile page will specify its designated pick-up location.
The Online Corral is a user-friendly internet-based service that allows prospective owners to view photos, watch videos, and read about each horse or burro available for adoption or purchase. The upcoming event is a fixed-price sale, with approved bidders able to acquire animals for a $125 fee, on a first-come, first-served basis, without the need for competitive bidding.
To join the online event, interested parties should visit the BLM’s Online Corral, set up an account, and submit an application for approval. Browsing the available horses and burros is easy; simply go to the Animals section, select the Adopt or Buy Now option, and click Search.
Early application submission is recommended to ensure approval before the February 16 deadline. Detailed adoption and purchase requirements can be found on the BLM’s official website.
The BLM oversees the care and management of wild horses and burros across 25.6 million acres of public lands in 10 Western states. Since the program’s inception in 1971, over 300,000 wild horses and burros have found new homes, contributing to the health of both the animals and the rangelands they inhabit.
