Reno City Council Moves Forward with Key Projects and Initiatives
The Reno City Council and Redevelopment Agency Board convened on Wednesday to address significant topics affecting the community. Key developments include infrastructure improvements, enhanced public safety measures, and strategic agreements aimed at fostering economic growth and community wellbeing.
ReTRAC Trench Rehabilitation Project
A major decision was the approval of a contract with Q&D Construction LLC for the ReTRAC Trench Rehabilitation Project, valued at approximately $1.99 million. This initiative aims to repair sections of the concrete walls of the ReTRAC trench, originally constructed in 2006 to enhance safety by lowering railroad tracks below street level. Scheduled for completion by late summer 2026, the project is a part of the fiscal year 2025/2026 Capital Improvement Plan, funded through the ReTRAC Maintenance Fund.
Supporting Mental Health Initiatives
The Council accepted a generous $25,000 donation from Grace Church to bolster the Reno Police Department’s Mobile Outreach Safety Team (MOST). This team, part of Grace Church’s “For the One” campaign, pairs police with mental health professionals to address crisis situations. The donation will fund additional training and equipment to enhance field operations, case management, and documentation.
Reno Police Department Grant Awards
Several grants were awarded to the Reno Police Department to support its various units. These include:
- $110,000 for the Regional Gang Unit from the Nevada Department of Public Safety.
- $73,460 for the Human Trafficking and Exploitation Team (HEAT).
- $29,308 for ballistic shields.
- $387,135 from the U.S. Department of Transportation to enforce laws concerning commercial vehicles.
Nevada Land Aces Stadium Agreement
The Council approved a term sheet with Nevada Land LLC and the Reno Aces, ensuring the team’s commitment to Reno through a 20-year non-relocation agreement and a $40 million investment into Greater Nevada Field. The agreement also allows for a profit-sharing model with the city if the stadium is sold within five years.
Block F Alley Transformation
The Council also approved the abandonment of public alleyways in Block F to facilitate a new sports and recreational development by Reno Real Estate Development, LLC. Existing utilities will be managed through easements, and maintenance will transfer to the developer.
Lakeridge Resort Development Approved
Advancing the Lakeridge Resort project, the Council approved amendments to the Master Plan and zoning map. The development will include a resort featuring hotel accommodations and recreational amenities. A 25-year deed restriction ensures the adjacent golf course remains operational.
