New Members Join UVA Provost Search Committee Amid Leadership Changes

New Faces Join University of Virginia Provost Search Committee

In the ongoing quest to appoint a new provost at the University of Virginia, the search committee has recently expanded its membership. This move comes as the university seeks to fill one of its most critical academic positions.

Jim Lambert, a professor in the School of Engineering and Applied Science, is among the latest additions to the committee. Lambert brings a wealth of experience, having previously served as chair of the Faculty Senate. He also holds the role of faculty representative to the Board of Visitors, providing him with a unique perspective on university governance.

Another new committee member is Evans Poston, who has recently joined the Board of Visitors. Appointed by Gov. Abigail Spanberger on January 17, Poston takes the place of Porter Wilkinson, who stepped down earlier this month. In his professional capacity, Poston serves as the director of federal and state affairs for Troutman Strategies, and he is the former commissioner of revenue in Norfolk.

Leadership changes have also occurred within the committee itself. Scott Beardsley, who was the previous chair, has transitioned to a new role as the University’s 10th president. Consequently, Stephanie Rowley, dean of the School of Education and Human Development, has stepped up to lead the search committee.

The committee’s task is to find a successor to Ian Baucom, the former provost who left UVA last year to assume the presidency at Middlebury College in Vermont. Brie Gertler is currently serving as the interim provost, ensuring continuity in the university’s academic leadership during this transitional period.
