Reno’s Northwest Park to Open New Dog Play Area on January 30th

Reno Welcomes New Dog Play Area at Northwest Park

Reno’s Northwest Park is set to unveil a new dog play area on January 30, a development that underscores the success of community collaboration and support. This initiative transforms a previously underutilized section of the park into an inviting space for dogs and their owners to enjoy.

The new facility is located near the baseball fields off Apollo Way, on a site that was once a community garden. This transformation aims to provide a safe environment for dogs to play and socialize, while fostering a sense of community among pet owners in the area.

“This project really reflects the power of collaboration,” stated Ward 5 Councilmember Devon Reese. “Thanks to our community partners and local businesses stepping up, we’re able to turn a neglected space into something that will be enjoyed by residents and their pets for years to come.”

The creation of the dog play area was facilitated by a partnership with Sierra Nevada Realtors and began with a $7,500 Placemaking Grant from the National Association of Realtors. Additionally, local businesses like Tholl Fencing contributed their expertise and resources to enhance the site, particularly with fencing and other improvements.

Designed to accommodate dogs of all sizes, the Northwest Park Dog Play Area aims to be an accessible and valuable asset for the neighborhood it serves. The community’s involvement in this project highlights the shared commitment to enhancing local public spaces.

Individuals and organizations interested in future park improvements or seeking to be acknowledged as project supporters are encouraged to reach out to the City of Reno Parks and Recreation Department. Contributions can be made through the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada. Donations are accepted online or by mailing checks payable to the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada with “City of Reno Fund – Northwest Reno Dog Park” in the memo line to 50 Washington Street, Suite 300, Reno, NV 89503. Tax deduction letters are available upon request.
