In an era marked by sharp political divides, two prominent intellectuals, Cornel West and Robert P. George, are set to engage in a meaningful dialogue aimed at bridging these gaps. Their conversation will inaugurate the “UVA250 Presents” series, emphasizing the importance of civic friendship, intellectual humility, and truth-seeking.
The “UVA250 Presents” series is part of a year-long celebration aligned with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. This initiative highlights the significant contributions of Thomas Jefferson’s university to the development of the United States, complementing state events marking this historic milestone.
Authors of the book “Truth Matters: A Dialogue on Fruitful Disagreement in an Age of Division,” West and George will delve into how educational institutions can cultivate genuine, constructive engagement that strengthens democratic principles.
Scheduled for Thursday evening, the event will be held in the Old Cabell Hall Auditorium from 6 to 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 4:30 p.m. Attendees can still register for limited seating or opt for a livestream registration to participate remotely.
This event is backed by various sponsors, including the Office of the President, UVA250, the College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences, the UVA Office of Engagement, the Karsh Institute of Democracy, and the UVA Miller Center of Public Affairs.
