Parole Review Underway for 1975 Second-Degree Murder Case
The N.C. Post Release Supervision and Parole Commission has announced it is reviewing the parole eligibility of Gary Gilley, who was convicted in March 1975 for second-degree murder in Davidson County, with a life sentence. This review is part of the Mutual Agreement Parole Program (MAPP), a structured initiative aimed at facilitating parole through academic and vocational training.
MAPP represents a collaborative effort between the Parole Commission, the N.C. Department of Adult Correction, and the offender. More details on this program can be found on the N.C. Department of Adult Correction’s website (https://www.dac.nc.gov/divisions-and-sections/rehabilitation-and-reentry/mutual-agreement-parole).
The Commission’s investigation will consider input from both supporters and opponents of Gilley’s parole, as well as the specifics of the case. Once the investigation concludes, a decision will be made and communicated to all involved parties within a 10-day period.
Though current laws under Structured Sentencing have abolished parole for crimes committed post-October 1, 1994, the Commission continues to manage parole for sentences issued prior to these changes.
Details related to the parole process, including case specifics and any victim or opposition correspondence, remain confidential. For further inquiries, the Commission is reachable at (919) 716-3010.
