Maricopa County’s Human Services Department has been lauded with 20 Achievement Awards by the National Association of Counties (NACo), highlighting their significant efforts to assist vulnerable populations in one of the nation’s most populous counties.
“I would like to congratulate the Human Services Department on being recognized with 20 Achievement Awards for their commitment to providing support for low-income and underserved communities,” stated Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jack Sellers, District 1. “These awards show that the county is dedicated to providing equitable, innovative, and fiscally responsible solutions, often through partnerships with public, private, and nonprofit organizations. It is a valuable collective effort to improve quality of life throughout Maricopa County.”
NACo honors groundbreaking initiatives in county government across 18 various categories. This year, Maricopa County Human Services was celebrated for initiatives such as the Senior Center Kitchen Expansion and Remodel in Buckeye, the Hand in Hand County Collaboration with Cities to Address Homelessness, the Emergency Shelter Expansion for Families, and several collaborations aimed at preventing heat-related deaths. Over a dozen other programs were also recognized.
Jayson Matthews, the Maricopa County Interim Director of Human Services, expressed pride in these accolades: “It is an honor every year being recognized by NACo for the work we do to help the people of Maricopa County. The Department of Human Services provides services to people of all ages and backgrounds, with a focus on those who need it the most. It’s meaningful work that makes a positive and measurable impact in the community. To see the work Human Services is doing recognized in program after program, on the national level, is truly gratifying and a testament to our amazing staff.”
Since 1970, NACo has been distributing Achievement Awards to recognize exceptional county government programs. Across Maricopa County, NACo acknowledged a total of 22 departments, elected offices, and courts, awarding them 75 Achievement Awards in total, marking a new record for the county.
