Mohave Community College Breaks Ground on Advanced Training Center

Mohave Community College Breaks Ground on Advanced Manufacturing Training Center in Kingman

In a significant step toward enhancing workforce development in Arizona, Mohave Community College (MCC) has initiated the construction of the Advanced Manufacturing Training Center (AMTC) at the Kingman Airport & Industrial Park. This initiative marks the beginning of the Future48 Workforce Accelerator in Northwest Arizona, with operations expected to commence in 2025.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, MCC was joined by representatives from the Arizona Commerce Authority, local government officials, and industry partners to celebrate this new chapter. The AMTC, in collaboration with the Arizona Commerce Authority, is set to be a part of the comprehensive Future48 Workforce Accelerators program—a $30 million statewide investment aimed at establishing training centers in partnership with local community colleges.

The Future48 Workforce Accelerators will focus on providing skills necessary for employment in Arizona’s burgeoning advanced manufacturing sector. Governor Katie Hobbs expressed her enthusiasm in a prepared video statement, saying, I’m so excited to see what this will do for our booming advanced manufacturing industry. This state-of-the-art facility is so much more than just a building, it represents the bright future that is possible for us all. I’m excited to see it get off the ground and congratulate everyone on your hard work getting it done. This is only the beginning.

The 36,000-square-foot AMTC facility will feature a design lab, simulated (SIM) and virtual reality (VR) lab, and a business incubator/maker space. It will host various programs under MCC’s Career and Technical Education Division, including HVAC, welding, and electrical training. MCC President Dr. Stacy Klippenstein stated, We are thrilled to be at the forefront of this historic workforce initiative. The AMTC will provide vital training and create a pipeline of highly skilled employees, supporting regional industries and communities.

Sandra Watson, President and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, highlighted the impact of the project, noting, Today’s groundbreaking represents a significant milestone for Arizona workforce development. The Future48 Workforce Accelerator in Kingman will equip students with skills needed for jobs in the advanced manufacturing industry while growing our skilled talent pipeline.

Set to be completed by Fall 2025, the AMTC will offer a range of programs, including credit, non-credit, and apprenticeship opportunities in areas such as workforce readiness, welding, HVAC, robotics, and more. Key industry partners supporting the initiative include NUCOR Steel, Air Control HVAC, and the Kingman and Mohave Manufacturing Association, among others.
