Overnight Shelter Options

In preparation for the colder months, Detroit is expanding its shelter capacity with more than 1,700 beds available citywide. This represents an increase of approximately 250 beds from the previous winter. The shelters include at least 220 drop-in center beds for individuals needing immediate access, 100 beds in warming centers, and 50 additional standby beds for emergency situations.

  • Coordination with the Detroit Police Department ensures residents can access drop-in locations.
  • Partnerships with non-profit organizations help connect individuals to short-term shelter and long-term housing solutions.

Emergency Shelter Access

For emergency shelter needs, call the Detroit Housing Resource HelpLine at 866-313-2520. This service is available Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

In-person assessments are also available at Cass Community Social Services, 12025 Woodrow Wilson St, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., or NOAH at Central, 23 E. Adams on the second floor, Monday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Additional information can be found at https://camdetroit.org/.

After-Hours Shelter Resources

For those needing overnight shelter Monday through Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 a.m., or at any time during the weekend, two options are available for finding a safe place to stay.
