Mayor Neeley Advocates for Flint Water Settlement Accuracy and Transparency

FLINT, Mich. — In recent developments regarding the Flint Water Settlement, Mayor Sheldon Neeley has emphasized the importance of accurate and responsible communication to prevent misinformation among residents. This follows the spread of statements that incorrectly suggest new advancements in the settlement timeline.

Contrary to circulating claims, neither the Special Master nor the U.S. District Court has announced a specific date for when Flint Water Settlement payments will be made. The only timeframe mentioned thus far is “late summer or early fall,” as noted in correspondence sent to Flint’s city administration.

Mayor Neeley stated, “Releasing speculative information only adds to residents’ pain and frustration. The people of Flint have already endured enough. They deserve honesty, transparency, and leadership rooted in facts — not politics.”

Remaining a staunch advocate for justice on behalf of Flint families, Mayor Neeley met with the Special Master in Washington, D.C. on September 25, 2025, to discuss the urgent need for the release of settlement funds. He also engaged with representatives at the White House to ensure these payments are distributed without further delay.

Following these meetings, it was confirmed by the Special Master that administrative efforts are ongoing, including the transition of the settlement’s webpage to a new payment portal. This portal aims to provide residents with easier access to accurate information, featuring details on settlement parameters, court proceedings, FAQs, and alerts about potential scams. Local library staff have volunteered to aid residents in using the new system once it is publicly accessible.

Mayor Neeley expressed gratitude towards partners at both state and federal levels for their continued support, saying, “We want to thank our partners at the state and federal levels who continue to support our advocacy efforts to move this process forward. We will keep pressing every federal and judicial channel until these settlement dollars reach the people they were meant to serve. It’s critical that we communicate responsibly — because every false rumor sets our community back.”
