Wharton Online’s New Course on Creativity Aims to Transform Problem-Solving Across Fields
PHILADELPHIA, August 6, 2025 – Wharton Online has launched a new course titled Creativity in Business and Other Disciplines on the popular learning platform Coursera. This course is designed for individuals eager to harness creativity as a strategic tool applicable across diverse industries such as business, marketing, design, technology, and more.
Challenging the notion that creativity is an innate talent, the course promotes it as a skill that can be developed. Creativity in Business and Other Disciplines offers a practical and cross-disciplinary curriculum inspired by the insights of more than 60 influential innovators. The curriculum integrates cognitive science, design thinking, gamification, AI, and art, equipping learners with tools to generate and assess ideas for real-world applications.
Participants will gain insights from notable figures like Nobel Prize-winning mRNA scientist Dr. Drew Weissman, renowned glass sculptor Dale Chihuly, and fashion mogul Tommy Hilfiger. Their diverse experiences underscore creativity’s transformative power in various settings including labs, studios, and corporate environments.
Yoram (Jerry) Wind, the course’s academic director and Lauder Professor Emeritus at Wharton, emphasized, “Everyone, regardless of age or profession, can enhance their creativity.” He added that the course aims to help individuals in various fields systematically enhance their creative skills and apply them effectively.
The course is an extension of a popular MBA elective Wind taught at Wharton for over a decade, now adapted for a global audience. Marni Baker Stein, Chief Content Officer at Coursera, highlighted the course’s relevance in today’s workforce, stating, “Creativity is one of the most in-demand skills in today’s workforce.” She noted that the course demystifies creativity, offering practical tools for learners to lead teams, launch products, or manage change effectively.
The self-paced course includes nine modules where learners will:
- Explore 12 proven approaches to creativity, such as morphological analysis and interdisciplinary collaboration
- Conduct personal experiments to apply new frameworks in real time
- Create a personalized toolkit for creative application in their work
- Learn from the experiences of over 60 distinguished creatives and industry leaders
Completing the course equips participants with the knowledge to drive innovation with creativity, courage, and curiosity. Upon completion, learners receive a certificate from Wharton Online via Coursera.
Creativity in Business and Other Disciplines is open for enrollment on Coursera, with a course fee of $99. Access the course here.
