Carnegie Mellon University Appoints Dr. Castañeda as New Vice Provost

Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) has announced the appointment of Dr. Castañeda as the new Vice Provost of Enrollment Management and Dean of Admission. Dr. Castañeda brings a wealth of experience in leading innovative strategies for student enrollment and enhancing student services, a role she previously excelled in at Teachers College.

Provost and Chief Academic Officer at CMU, James H. Garrett Jr., expressed confidence in Dr. Castañeda’s ability to influence the university’s future enrollment strategies. “Dr. Castañeda is a leader known for driving innovation and strategic growth in the enrollment and admissions space. Her expertise in spearheading institution-wide strategies and enhancing student services will be invaluable in shaping the future of student enrollment and success at Carnegie Mellon University,” he stated.

Dr. Castañeda’s impressive track record includes her tenure as associate vice chancellor for enrollment management at Rutgers University-New Brunswick. There, she managed student enrollment across nine schools and colleges, improved financial aid processes, and enhanced marketing and student services. Her academic credentials include an undergraduate degree from Wellesley College, master’s degrees in mental health counseling from Boston College and psychology from Brandeis University, and an Ed.D. in organizational leadership and development from Northeastern University.

Expressing her excitement for the new role, Dr. Castañeda remarked, “It’s an honor to serve as the next Vice Provost of Enrollment Management and Dean of Admission for Carnegie Mellon, an institution that has always been at the forefront of innovation and creativity. With enthusiasm for the opportunities ahead, I’m looking forward to working with the great team in place to build upon CMU’s success in recruiting and engaging highly talented students.”

The selection of Dr. Castañeda was the result of an extensive search process, co-chaired by Dr. Becky Culyba, vice provost for operations and strategic initiatives and chief of staff to the provost, and Dr. Michael Murphy, distinguished service professor and executive director of the Center for Leadership Studies.
