Celebrating a Season of Stories and Community in Howell
As the summer season wraps up, Howell’s downtown has been bustling with families enjoying the unique storytelling experience provided by the Great Start Livingston team. This week marked the end of the 2026 Stories in Storefronts initiative, as the final StoryWalk® panels were collected from participating businesses.
Throughout the summer, local businesses offered their storefronts as homes for each page of the story, creating a vibrant and inviting community atmosphere for young readers and their families.
The dismantling of these panels serves as a reminder of the collective effort required to foster a community welcoming to young children and their educational growth.
A Community Effort in Howell’s Downtown
The Stories in Storefronts program transformed a simple walk through downtown Howell into a narrative journey, with eleven businesses and organizations displaying StoryWalk® panels in their storefronts. This collaboration offered families an interactive reading experience amidst the charm of their community.
Howell Main Street played a crucial role in connecting the initiative with local entities, ensuring a cohesive and supported experience across all participants.
Together, these efforts turned everyday strolls into opportunities for families to engage in reading, conversation, and exploration while enjoying quality time together.

The finale of Stories in Storefronts provided a moment to celebrate with hosts and extend personal thanks. This occasion marked a joyful conclusion to a summer of community learning.
