Exciting Lineup Awaiting at the 2025 Drake Relays
The 2025 Drake Relays, presented by Xtream and powered by Mediacom, promises a week filled with activities ranging from competitive athletic events to family-friendly happenings. Whether you’re a student, alumni, or part of the Des Moines community, the Drake Relays offer something for everyone.
Key Events to Anticipate:
The newly introduced World Shot Put Series will feature world record holder Ryan Crouser among other top athletes. Set for Wednesday, April 23, this event promises a fresh take on shot put competitions with minimal measuring, live music, and food trucks, all free for the public.
The Thursday Night Throwdown is back, showcasing elite javelin and hammer throwers. This event will feature both men’s and women’s competitions.
Families should not miss Family Night on Friday. Activities include face painting, balloon art, and a bubble station, capped off by a fireworks display. Additionally, a 4×400 meter mixed relay for middle schoolers debuts, offering a new experience for young athletes.
Community Events
Residents of Greater Des Moines can participate in various public events, starting with the 57th Annual Drake Road Races on Saturday, April 19. Though registration is closed, spectators are encouraged to line the course and cheer on participants.
The Beautiful Bulldog Competition, scheduled for Monday, April 21, at The Knapp Center, will see 30 bulldogs vie for the title of ‘Most Beautiful Bulldog.’
Runners of all ages will gather for the Grand Blue Mile on Tuesday, April 22, in downtown Des Moines. Participants can register here.
Student Activities
Drake students can enjoy a host of events during Relays Week, including a Paint Fight on April 17 and a Prelays Silent Disco. From street painting to a Relays Carnival, there are numerous activities designed to engage students throughout the week.
Alumni Gatherings
Drake alumni can look forward to several events throughout the week. The Alumni Awards Ceremony on April 24 is a highlight, along with social gatherings such as Let’s DU Drinks at the Blue Oval.
