Drake University Showcases Bulldog Spirit at 2026 Iowa State Fair
As the nation gears up to celebrate its 250th birthday, Drake University is bringing its vibrant Bulldog spirit to the 2026 Iowa State Fair, scheduled from August 13 to 23. The fair, a staple of Iowa’s cultural heritage, provides the perfect stage for Drake to highlight its community engagement and innovative legacy.
Stationed at Booth 332 in the William C. Knapp Varied Industries Building, Drake University is embracing the “Fair Spirit” theme. For 11 days, the university will highlight its role as a leading educational institution and a community cornerstone in Des Moines.
Drake warmly invites alumni, potential students, sports enthusiasts, and community members to visit its booth. The exhibit will feature a range of officially licensed Drake apparel, including exclusive merchandise designed specifically for fair attendees.
Supporting Iowa’s Future Leaders
Highlighting its dedication to empowering local talent, Drake University emphasizes its financial aid strategies at the fair. President Marty Martin stated, “Our focus is keeping a premier education accessible through programs like the Bulldog Promise, which ensures 100% tuition coverage for up to four years for qualifying, first-time Iowa bachelor’s degree students.” Additionally, the Bright College Pathway offers full tuition for two years to Iowa students pursuing an associate degree at John Dee Bright College.
Engage with Drake’s Academic and Athletic Communities
The fair provides an opportunity for visitors to engage directly with Drake University representatives and explore various academic programs. Bulldog fans can also meet the coaching staff and student-athletes, who will be present to interact with fans and distribute free team posters.
Inclusive Initiatives at the Fair
Drake continues to foster inclusivity through its sponsorship of the Sensory-Friendly Morning at the fair, organized by the Drake University Occupational Therapy (OTD) program. Scheduled for Wednesday, August 19, from 8 a.m. to noon, the event aims to create a welcoming environment by reducing sensory stimuli like loud sounds and flashing lights.
Rachel Allen-McHugh, associate professor of Occupational Therapy and chair/program director of the Drake OTD Program, emphasized the significance of this effort: “Occupational therapy is fundamentally about breaking down barriers to ensure that every individual can participate fully in the activities that bring joy and meaning to their lives. By partnering with the Fair for Sensory-Friendly Morning, we are helping to make this beloved Iowa tradition accessible and welcoming for every family in our community.”
