Senators Advocate for Nevada to Lead 2028 Presidential Nominations

As the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Rules and Bylaws Committee prepares for a crucial meeting, Nevada’s bid to lead the 2028 Presidential nominating calendar gains momentum. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto and Congressman Steven Horsford have actively championed this cause, emphasizing Nevada’s strategic importance in forming a strong working-class coalition essential for reclaiming the White House in the next election cycle.

Senator and Congressman Advocate for Nevada

Their advocacy, detailed in a recent letter to the committee members, highlights Nevada’s unique position as a state that embodies the diverse voter base crucial for Democratic success. “We’ve been clear at every step, this is about reaching a broad coalition of diverse voters, not elevating or prioritizing any voice over another,” stated Sen. Cortez Masto and Rep. Horsford. “In Nevada, we embody that entire coalition. We are home to Latino, Black, AANHPI, Native American and white working-class voters and our organized labor is some of the strongest in the country.”

They further argued that Nevada’s characteristics as a small, affordable, and competitive battleground state make it an ideal choice. “Nevada is a small, affordable, competitive battleground where candidates must build the broad, multiracial, working-class coalition that Democrats need to win nationally and voting is safe and accessible,” they added. “It is the only state that fully represents the principles the Rules and Bylaws Committee established to guide this process.”

National Support for Nevada’s Bid

The letter also underscores the broad support Nevada has garnered from influential national organizations and figures. “There’s a reason Nevada has earned the support of national organizations and voices including the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, UNITE HERE, CHC BOLD PAC, Latino Victory, Somos Votantes, former HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra, ASPIRE PAC, and AAPI Victory, who collectively represent the very voters we must win on our path to victory,” they concluded. The experience gained in Nevada is seen as invaluable for candidates aiming to succeed in the general election.
