Engage with Nature: Volunteer Opportunities at Red Rock Canyon
Embrace a chance to contribute to the preservation of one of America’s treasured landscapes by volunteering at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. The Bureau of Land Management extends an invitation to individuals, partner agencies, and organized groups to join its efforts in maintaining and conserving this picturesque area. Through collaboration in various projects, participants can contribute to the tradition of keeping public lands as inclusive and welcoming spaces for all communities, enhancing the connection to America’s natural heritage.
Discover Volunteer Projects
This year, Red Rock Canyon NCA offers a range of stewardship projects that invite hands-on involvement:
- Red Spring & Calico Basin Litter Cleanup
Volunteers can make a significant impact by removing litter from key areas such as the Red Spring Boardwalk, Calico Basin Trail, parking spots, and picnic sites. The initiative begins with a safety briefing, after which participants, guided by BLM Rangers and Southern Nevada Conservancy staff, work in small groups to protect the natural resources.
- Calico Basin Photo‑Blitz & Bio‑Blitz
Capture the essence of Calico Basin through an interactive Photo-blitz that documents plants, wildlife, geology, and visitor activities. These images will not only contribute to a public photo book and the Red Rock Canyon digital library but also support iNaturalist efforts, functioning as a Bio‑blitz to enhance understanding of the area’s biodiversity.
- Invasive Decollate Snail Removal at Willow Spring
Participate in ecological restoration at Willow Spring by removing invasive decollate snails. Volunteers receive on-site training, ensuring their efforts directly benefit native species and promote ecological balance.
- Trail Maintenance Project (Location TBA)
Engage in essential trail maintenance activities, such as rock work, raking, digging, and lining. This project involves moderate physical activity and may require walking up to two miles, allowing volunteers to play a vital role in preserving trail conditions.
These volunteer opportunities highlight a collective dedication to conservation and community, embodying the spirit of shared stewardship and the enduring American spirit.
