In today’s rapidly evolving world, a fresh wave of innovators is emerging from Carnegie Mellon University, making significant impacts across various fields. These 24 alumni, part of the esteemed Tartans on the Rise class of 2025, are not only excelling in their respective industries but are also reshaping the global landscape through their groundbreaking work.
The Tartans on the Rise initiative, now celebrating its fourth anniversary, honors Carnegie Mellon alumni who have graduated within the last decade. These individuals have demonstrated exceptional talent, visionary leadership, and transformative accomplishments in their professional journeys.
“On behalf of the entire Carnegie Mellon University community, I congratulate our newest Tartans on the Rise,” said Farnam Jahanian, President of CMU. “This group’s dedication to making a difference in their careers and their communities is nothing short of inspiring, and we are thrilled to celebrate both their accomplishments to date and their many successes to come.”
The diverse achievements of this year’s cohort range from enhancing cybersecurity measures for major tech firms to pioneering advancements in the beauty industry. These alumni are instrumental in forming policies for secure technology production and managing social media content for brands like Coca-Cola and Delta Air Lines. They also contribute to the arts, with some writing acclaimed off-Broadway plays and securing positions in the prestigious New York Philharmonic.
“These Tartans on the Rise embody the best of the Tartan spirit,” expressed Teresa Violi Trombetta, assistant vice president for alumni and constituent engagement. “They’ve accomplished so much in the short time since their graduations, and I am thrilled to be able to celebrate what they’ve achieved so far and where they will go in the future.”
Several members of the cohort have ventured into entrepreneurship, founding companies that innovate in areas like dental health technology, sustainable cement production, and banking solutions for small enterprises. Others have initiated nonprofits aimed at combating sex trafficking and engaging youth in climate change dialogues. Health and governance also feature prominently, with efforts focused on diabetes prevention in South Asia and addressing misinformation in U.S. politics.
The recognition of these alumni extends globally. One member was named Chief Technology Officer of the Year by Technical.ly Pittsburgh, while another won the 2024 NOMIS & Science Young Explorer Award. A youth delegate to the UN climate conference and a screenwriter honored by the Tribeca Film Institute are also among this distinguished group.
