The Nevada National Security Sites (NNSS) is playing a pivotal role in nurturing the next generation of engineers and innovators. By partnering with the University of Nevada, Reno, NNSS actively supports the Innovation Day Capstone Design Project Competition, a key event in the College of Engineering’s calendar where students present their inventive solutions to real-world problems.
During this annual event, senior undergraduate teams vie for cash prizes, generously sponsored by NNSS. The competition not only highlights the students’ creativity but also provides them with a platform to demonstrate their engineering prowess.
This year, the judging panel included three skilled engineers from NNSS, who volunteered to assess the projects. Their participation ensures that the evaluations are thorough and provide valuable insights for the aspiring engineers. For more details about the winners, you can check out the winning projects.
Beyond the competition, NNSS’s involvement in Innovation Day offers numerous benefits. It creates opportunities for students to engage with experienced engineers from NNSS, discuss potential career paths, and gain new perspectives on tackling complex issues. The organization’s commitment to academic and technological advancement is further exemplified by its financial contributions, including a $150,000 philanthropic grant and $1.4 million invested in subcontracted work at the University. These funds primarily support Site-Directed Research and Development projects managed by NNSS.
