Nevada Democratic Chair Honors Juneteenth, Calls for Continued Action

Reflecting on Juneteenth: A Statement from Nevada State Democratic Party Chair

Each year, Juneteenth serves as a vivid reminder of the long-awaited freedom for enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas, following the Emancipation Proclamation. This historic day continues to resonate as a pivotal moment in the journey toward equality and justice in America.

Nevada State Democratic Party Chair Daniele Monroe-Moreno shared her thoughts on this significant occasion:

“Today marks the day enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, finally learned they were free, as the news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached them and spread the promise of freedom to every corner of the nation. Yet we know that the battle for freedom and opportunity for Black Americans did not end on that day 161 years ago. That work continues today, and we must reaffirm our commitment to honoring the sacrifices of those who came before us by advancing the cause of freedom, justice, and equal opportunity for all. In doing so, we carry forward their legacy and continue the work of building a more perfect union for generations to come.”

Monroe-Moreno’s statement underscores the enduring struggle for civil rights and the ongoing efforts needed to achieve true equality. As communities across the nation commemorate Juneteenth, the call to action remains clear: to keep striving for a just and equitable society.
