In an effort to enhance mental health and addiction recovery services in Flint, Michigan, a substantial financial boost has been made available for a vital healthcare facility. The city has allocated $500,000 from its opioid settlement funds to Insight Health System, aiming to expand its specialized Medical Psychiatric Hospital located at 4400 S. Saginaw Street.
The funding is earmarked for a significant expansion of the facility’s capacity. Currently, the hospital operates with 19 medical psychiatric inpatient beds. With the new funds, this number is set to increase to a total of 70 licensed beds, which will be dedicated to treating individuals grappling with co-occurring medical, psychiatric, and substance use disorders.
“This investment reflects our commitment to addressing the opioid crisis through treatment, recovery, and long-term support for individuals and families impacted by addiction,” stated Mayor Sheldon Neeley. “These funds are being directed toward services that will save lives and strengthen behavioral healthcare access in Flint.”
The announcement of the funding was made by Mayor Neeley during a press conference on Monday, June 8.
The facility offers a range of services, including inpatient psychiatric stabilization, substance use disorder treatment, medication-assisted treatment, therapy services, and coordinated recovery planning for patients facing complex behavioral health and medical challenges.
Mayor Neeley emphasized the strategic use of opioid settlement funds by saying, “The City of Flint continues to strategically invest opioid settlement funding into programs and infrastructure that address the long-term impact of the opioid epidemic on the community.”
