Businessman Faces Felony Charges for Alleged Tax Embezzlement
A Wake County businessman has been apprehended following serious allegations of tax embezzlement. This development sheds light on the persistent issue of tax-related crimes in the region.
On July 6, Sean McKenzie, a 54-year-old resident of Wake Forest, was arrested by the North Carolina Department of Revenue. He is facing five felony charges of Embezzlement of State Property.
According to the indictments, McKenzie, who serves as the president and responsible person at Bull Restoration Inc., is accused of enabling the business to embezzle, misapply, and convert $90,682.81 worth of North Carolina Sales Tax for its own use. This alleged misconduct took place between May 1, 2017, and July 31, 2021, during which time McKenzie was tasked with collecting, holding in trust, and remitting the sales tax to the state.
Following his arrest, McKenzie was brought before a magistrate in Wake County, where he was released on a $50,000 unsecured bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for July 13, 2026, at the Wake County Superior Court in Raleigh.
The charges are the culmination of an investigation conducted by special agents from the Department’s Criminal Investigations Division in Raleigh.
