Pope Leo XIV Receives Custom Stanley Cup Jersey from NC Labor Chief

North Carolina’s Unique Tribute to Pope Leo XIV

During a recent visit to Vatican City, North Carolina Commissioner of Labor Luke Farley had the privilege of presenting Pope Leo XIV with a remarkable gift—a custom Carolina Hurricanes Stanley Cup jersey and the prestigious Order of the Tar Heel. This event marked a celebration of the team’s historic championship and acknowledged the Pope’s contributions as the first American pope and his dedication to worker protection globally.

The Order of the Tar Heel is the highest honor awarded by the N.C. Commissioner of Labor, and it was bestowed upon Pope Leo XIV for his commitment to ensuring that artificial intelligence serves to empower workers rather than replace them. Commissioner Farley expressed his admiration, stating, “It was an honor to meet with Pope Leo XIV in Vatican City, where I had the privilege of presenting him with the Order of the Tar Heel as a symbol of North Carolina’s gratitude for his lifelong example of service, faith, and leadership.”

The custom jersey not only celebrated the Carolina Hurricanes’ recent Stanley Cup victory but also embodied the pride of hockey enthusiasts throughout North Carolina. The gesture served as a meaningful connection between the state and the Pope, reflecting shared values and achievements.

Brian Fork, CEO of Hurricanes Holdings, LLC, shared his enthusiasm: “We were proud to bring the Stanley Cup home to Raleigh and are thrilled that Commissioner Farley had a chance to share a piece of North Carolina with Pope Leo by presenting him with a personalized Hurricanes jersey just a week after winning the Cup.”

This occasion was more than just a nod to the Hurricanes’ success; it was an opportunity to highlight Pope Leo XIV’s influence and the values he shares with the Order of the Tar Heel inductees. The event underscored the significance of leadership, service, and faith, drawing a parallel between North Carolina’s achievements and the Pope’s global impact.
