NCDOT awards $5.6M contracts for road resurfacing in Johnston, Wayne

Major Road Resurfacing Projects Begin in Johnston and Wayne Counties

Travelers in Johnston and Wayne counties can soon look forward to smoother rides as significant road resurfacing projects are set to commence. The N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has awarded two substantial contracts aimed at improving the conditions of state-maintained roads within these regions.

S.T. Wooten Corp., based in Wilson, has emerged as the successful bidder for both contracts, securing them by presenting the lowest responsive bids. Notably, each bid came in under the engineering estimates outlined by the NCDOT, signaling a cost-effective approach to these essential infrastructure upgrades.

The combined value of the contracts stands at $5.6 million. This funding will enable the resurfacing of:

  • 32 miles of secondary routes throughout Johnston County
  • 19 miles of secondary routes in Wayne County

The anticipated roadwork is scheduled to begin in August, with S.T. Wooten Corp. tasked to complete the projects by the spring of 2026. This timeline allows for thorough improvements and ensures that the roadways will be revitalized for the benefit of local commuters and transport systems.
