Governor Stein Signs Four Bills to Address Housing, Education, and More

Governor Stein Enacts New Legislation to Address Housing and Education Needs

In a significant legislative move, Governor Stein has approved a series of bills aimed at tackling key issues in North Carolina, including housing affordability and educational development. The enactment of these laws marks a proactive approach towards enhancing the state’s infrastructure and community resources.

Addressing Housing Affordability and Renewable Energy

Governor Stein emphasized the urgency of expanding housing options in North Carolina while signing Senate Bill 445. He stated, “North Carolina is growing rapidly, and the cost of housing is increasing. We need to build more housing units of all types to drive down rents and mortgages. This bill cuts red tape to help produce more houses and apartments and deliver results for North Carolinians. It also makes it easier for families to install solar panels or battery systems to save on their utility bills.” The bill is designed to streamline regulations to facilitate the construction of housing units and promote the use of renewable energy solutions.

Enhancing Disaster Relief and Education Programs

House Bill 268 was another significant piece of legislation signed by Governor Stein. He highlighted its importance by stating, “This bill strengthens disaster relief, teacher workforce pipelines, and economic development programs. It supports the Small Business Infrastructure Program and the Division of Community Revitalization, which are working tirelessly to support western North Carolina recovery. It also enables public schools to start teacher apprenticeship programs as early as this year and supports access to loans for North Carolina teaching fellows.” Despite his endorsement, Governor Stein expressed disappointment over certain provisions included in the bill, which he felt could undermine the executive branch’s effectiveness.

Additional Legislative Measures

In addition to the aforementioned bills, Governor Stein also signed House Bill 562 and House Bill 834. These new laws further contribute to the state’s legislative framework, aiming to enhance various aspects of public welfare and administration.
