Public Review Opens for Wild Horse Management Plan in Nevada
The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Carson City District, Sierra Front Field Office, invites the public to participate in reviewing the Preliminary North Complex Wild Horse Gather Environmental Assessment (PEA). This initiative, which includes a request for public comments, aligns with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, aiming to gather insights on historic properties within the project area.
The BLM’s proposal focuses on managing the wild horse population by capturing and removing excess horses from the Granite Peak, Dogskin Mountains, and Flanigan Herd Management Areas (HMAs). The goal is to adjust the population to the lower end of the appropriate management level (AML) for each HMA and to implement fertility control measures specifically within the Flanigan HMA.
The public is encouraged to share their feedback during the comment period, which runs from May 22, 2026, through June 22, 2026. The full PEA document can be accessed online at: https://eplanning.blm.gov/Project-Home/?id=390602e3-6b54-f111-bec6-001dd8029ed0
To participate, the BLM encourages comments to be submitted via the National NEPA Register website, where participants can select “participate now” in the left column. Alternatively, comments can be mailed to 5665 Morgan Mill Road, Carson City, NV 89701, addressed to the “North Complex Wild Horse Gather PEA.” All mailed comments need to be postmarked by 4:30 pm on or before June 22, 2026.
For inquiries or access issues, you can email the BLM at [email protected]. Note that comments on the PEA will not be accepted via this email.
If further assistance is needed, contact project lead Brian McMillan at [email protected].
