Emergency Closure Enacted for Water Canyon Recreation Area Amidst Juniper Ridge Fire
WINNEMUCCA, Nev. – In response to the escalating Juniper Ridge Fire, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has announced an immediate closure of the Water Canyon Recreation Area. This measure aims to safeguard public safety, along with natural and cultural resources, while facilitating effective wildfire management.
The shutdown affects all BLM-managed lands within the Water Canyon Recreation Area, which is situated between Golconda and Winnemucca in Humboldt County. The fire activity is concentrated in the vicinity of Juniper Ridge, necessitating this preventative action.
Key attractions within the affected area include the campground along Water Canyon Road, several hiking trails, and a widely frequented disc golf course. These sites are now inaccessible to the public until further notice, as authorities work to ensure conditions are safe for re-entry.
The closure strictly prohibits all public access, exempting only emergency responders. Violations of this directive may result in legal action, including fines as specified under 18 U.S.C. 3571, imprisonment for up to a year, or both. Additionally, unauthorized vehicles may be subject to removal.
For a detailed view, refer to the attached closure order and map. To inquire further, reach out to the Humboldt River Field Office at (775) 623-1500.
