“The key conclusion from the survey is that Joe Lombardo’s support among voters is extremely shallow, and his weak performance as governor has the potential to create significant movement against him as he prepares to run for reelection next year.” – pollster Geoff Garin
In a political landscape where perception often influences reality, a recent poll sheds light on the challenges ahead for Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo. The survey, highlighted by the Nevada Independent, positions Lombardo as the most susceptible Republican leader facing reelection, revealing a lack of substantial support backing his governance. With only 38% of participants rating his performance as “just so-so” and 24% viewing it as “not so good” or “poor,” the figures suggest substantial voter dissatisfaction.
Lombardo’s performance is notably weaker among Latino constituents, a pivotal demographic in Nevada’s electoral landscape, with just 29% offering a favorable evaluation of his governance. Pollster Geoff Garin emphasized the precariousness of Lombardo’s stance, stating, “the high degree of movement speaks both to the weakness of his position and to the potency of the criticisms against him.” This vulnerability becomes more pronounced when voters are apprised of Lombardo’s legislative record, which significantly shifts their perception negatively.
Adding to the challenges, Lombardo’s alignment with former President Trump and his policies appears detrimental to his appeal in Nevada. Trump’s controversial policies—such as tariffs that have escalated costs and sparked a trade war—are viewed unfavorably by the electorate, with only 36% believing they have benefited Nevada. Moreover, a significant portion of voters feels Lombardo has failed to adequately challenge Trump on issues affecting Nevadans.
The state’s direction under Lombardo’s leadership also comes into question, with 56% of respondents indicating that Nevada is veering off course. The economic strain is palpable, as 95% of those surveyed report a deterioration in the cost of living, with 63% describing it as much less affordable. Educational standards, too, are perceived to have declined, with 86% noting a negative change.
Joe Lombardo’s reelection prospects are further complicated by his association with Trump’s “Big Beautiful Bill,” which is projected to remove over 100,000 Nevadans from healthcare coverage and reduce SNAP benefits, all to facilitate tax reductions for the wealthy. Despite initial denials about Republican intentions to slash Medicaid, Lombardo publicly endorsed Trump’s tax reform, which NBC News describes as “uniquely” detrimental to Nevada.
Nevada State Democratic Party spokesperson Tai Sims:
“This latest poll confirms what we’ve known all along: Joe Lombardo is the most vulnerable Republican governor running for reelection next year. The overwhelming majority of Nevadans believe that the cost of living and education has worsened and that Nevada overall is moving in the wrong direction on Lombardo’s watch. As Lombardo continues to cheer on Trump’s price-raising agenda he will have to reckon with voters who aren’t as ‘excited’ as he is about Trump’s policies.“
