BLM Seeks Public Input on Jackson Mountains Wild Horse Management Plan

Public Comments Invited for Wild Horse Management in Nevada’s Jackson Mountains

WINNEMUCCA, Nev. – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is calling for public input on its draft plan to manage wild horses in the Jackson Mountains Herd Management Area. This region, situated roughly 30 miles northwest of Winnemucca and 40 miles south of Denio in Humboldt County, Nevada, encompasses 257,395 acres of public lands under BLM jurisdiction and an additional 7,579 acres of mixed ownership lands.

The initiative, known as the Jackson Mountains Wild Horse Herd Management Area Plan, aims to establish management goals that ensure the ecological balance of the region. “The Jackson Mountains HMAP will identify and set objectives for managing wild horses to maintain a thriving natural ecological balance within the Jackson Mountains HMA,” stated Jonah Blustain, Black Rock Field Manager.

Stakeholders and interested parties are encouraged to participate by submitting their comments through the BLM National NEPA Register, where comprehensive project details and documentation are accessible. The feedback period remains open until June 15, 2026.

For further inquiries, individuals can reach out to Wild Horse and Burro Specialist Garrett Swisher at 775-623-1500.
