BLM Elko Offers $5 Christmas Tree Permits for Online and In-Person Purchase

Elko Residents Get Ready for the Holiday Season with Christmas Tree-Cutting Permits

Elko, Nev. – As the festive season approaches, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Elko District has opened up its annual Christmas tree-cutting permit process. Each permit is priced at $5, and individuals can purchase up to 10 permits. These can be acquired either online or directly from the BLM office.

Online Permit Purchase:

Tree enthusiasts can conveniently buy permits online at any time, thanks to the BLM Special Forest Products Online Permit Sales Pilot Program. To get started, visit this website, choose Nevada, select the Elko option, and then pick Christmas tree. After filling out the application and entering your credit or debit card details, your permit will be processed in minutes and ready for printing. Remember, permits are non-refundable, and additional details, including conditions and maps, are provided for download.

For those who prefer to purchase permits in person, the Elko District Office offers over-the-counter sales until December 24th. Located at 3900 E Idaho Street, Elko NV, the office welcomes visitors from 7:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, except on Thanksgiving Day.

The permit allows for the cutting of Pinyon Pine and Juniper trees exclusively on designated BLM-administered lands. Tree cutting is not permitted in wilderness study areas (WSA’s). Popular BLM lands for tree cutting include Spruce Mountain, Cherry Creek Range, Murdock Mountains, Dolly Varden Mountain, Pequop Mountains, Wood Hills, Pilot Range, and Sugar Loaf Peak.

Accessing Maps and More Information:

To assist tree hunters in finding the best locations, the BLM provides a free National Mobile Map Package (MMPK). These can be downloaded from Field Maps and used offline to display locations over BLM datasets, focusing on recreational areas. Further instructions for downloading are available on the public BLM site.

For any questions or additional information, the Elko District Office is reachable at (775)753-0200.
